The announcement about this board has now drawn three pages of posts over there. This constitutes a Hot Topic. Tone is mostly supportive Really, IMO, there have really only been a couple of comments that were IMO, "unnecessary" and really just the one that I considered "hostile" the unnecessary ones were just not "getting" why a board like this makes sense, and that's just not "getting" it, IMO, not surprising, IMO for straight white guys But seriously, that's cool. And maybe I should make it so that guests can "see" the "Other Sites of interest" forum....?? THR is in there

Please dont waste your time at THR. Although some people there may encourage you for the most part. They dont like you. Dont believe me . Post a topic like gay marriage and you will see the Straight white christian bigots pop out of the wood work. There are people actually promoting sites like stormfront et al over there. Sorry if this is bad news. But that site is pretty much for the straight white republican people only.

I mean no offense, but I'd think that the topic of Gay Marriage would be OFF TOPIC at a general gun forum, don't you??

Sorry if this is bad news. But that site is pretty much for the straight white republican people only. As I understand THRs "rules" they do not advocate topics unrelated to firearms in SOME way. The ONLY way I (IMO) got to legitamately use the "gay" word was in announcing THIS Board. Why beczause the primary focus OF the board is guns, the primary people it is FOR is GLB or T folk (and their supporters Bigots are ALL OVER the place whether it be against folks who are gay, folks who are straight, folks who are a religon OTHER than "Christian" or against Christians OR against folks who like guns.... unfortunately, it's human nature. All one can do, IMO is to hold fast onto the truth and be more reasonable and intelligent than the bigots, (fortunately, this is NOT difficult )

Now I'm confused.... one of THR posters said he dropped in, and it wasn't too bad except he was blusing "beet red"... I've LOOKED but cannot figure out what illicited the blood-rush.... unless maybe it was just that he was on a "gay" board... maybe??? I thought we had managed to keep it pretty "Tame". <shrug>

its probably the rainbow colors at the top of the window that made him blush.
the 'roundtable' forum at THR is specifically for non-gunrelated topics, which has been great as the 10,000+ members of THR have always gotten frustrated when their 'offtopic' threads get locked. i mean, we got lots more to talk about than just guns!
and i wouldnt worry much about bigots at THR. most of them are trolls, newly registered at THR and they quickly get added to 'ignore lists'.

You can usually tell the intolerant ones by the scripture in there names. THR its not just for homophobic white evangelicals anymore.

Crap i almost forgot about the "Matthew SHepard was not a Hate crime thread". That was a good one. I figure about half he membership says *this will not be tolerated, change it* fag wetback and about the other 50% may agree with it. I usually think silence on a topic is placid approval

Well that's one of the reasons for this board, I don't hang out on THR too much. Not because of the antigay thing as much as I live on AR15.com for the most part. I believe that people have a right to "free speech" and the owners of the boards decide what gets said and what doesn't. Kacer and I are veterans of many of board gay wars, and yes they can get nasty but we have won a degree of respect out of those little battles.
Now as far as this board goes, the rules are different THIS IS A LGBT/GUN board. And no one gets to bash anybody here.

THR avoids controversial arguments because their purpose is guns. I don't see it as tacit approval, and I don't see a problem with people defending their positions, which I do all the time in women-bashing threads, and in the kill the towel head threads and the evil gay sinner threads. You just have to make a valid argument without being too much of an ass in the process, which is kind of tough for me, personally, but I manage.
It's not as if they shut down threads where people are arguing about gays and leave up threads where they're arguing about LEOs. Pretty much anytime things start getting controversial, the thread is locked down and I'm fine with that. There are other boards where you can go and argue all you want, but that isn't one of them.

I know what you mean about making a valid argument w/o being too much of an ass ....me too And I don't really like the whole "if people start to argue too much we're shutting the thread down" mentality - which is why I TEND to not go to THR as much as I might. I enjoy spanking bigots, I'm just getting tired of my posts being toasted in DU is all. AND being "attacked" on all fronts is getting to be a tad much too. But, I upped my omega 3's and that seems to be handling it better
