I'm just "odd" all the way around... I THINK... maybe not. If I were African-American, IMO, they'd make perfect sense, but I'm white as a sheet. And AFAIK, no African-American "blood"... but the McCallister's apparently DID own slaves... so who knows? In fact, aside from Kindergarten and 1st grade (Where I attended School in Springfield at Simon-Kenton w/ about a 60% African-American students, 35% wite students and 5% "other".) I wasn't even EXPOSED to ANY African Americans. I mean in MY class nada. 2 classes ahead and 4 classes ahead and 1 class behind me there was 1 black student (total of 3 in the WHOLE School - 2 were siblings). Still, nada AFAIK. But my 3 heroes in order were: Harriet Tubman Amelia Earhart Martin Luther King Jr. So who were YOUR heroes as a kid growing up? Am I just really intelligent, or just really odd? (or both maybe? Or to those who know me does this just explain a lot?

Kacer,
Strange how this is going to link in, when there is really no reason it should!
My childhood heros:
Simon Kenton Gen. George Patton The Mercury Astronauts
We had 2 blacks (brother & sister) in my first school, none in my class. C R Coblentz School District, Preble Co., Oh. First Ohio district to be consolidated.
We had 2 black families (IIRC total of 3 or 4 kids) in my second school, 1 in my classs. Lexington Local School District, Richland Co., Ohio.
We had 1 black family (total of 2 or 3 kids) with 1 in my class at my third school. Bath Local School District, Allen Co. Ohio.
No opinion on your last two questions.

Shakespeare Heinlein and later, Nikos Kazantzakis
They were my heroes because I had asthma as a child and missed a lot of school. I learned how to think, how to dream at their hands. I found that within my mind I could set my own adventures and chart a course that might lead me to freedom. . .
Bach, Beethoven and Mozart did the rest. I survived because of those six; and the concept of celebrating vision and imagination carried and sustained by such music has seen me endure everything else.
They were my springboard.

For me a big one would be my mom if only I was half the person she was.

Of course, all 3 of MY "heroes" were dead by the time I was BORN... plus, if you read the thread about famous women you'd not object to... on AFRCOM... a LOT of MY choices "dated" me as a LOT older, but I was just an "early learner" Maybe the same w/you?

Joe Nameth, Johnny Unitas, Carl Yastrzemski, anyone in Playboy and the LaFrance twins who helped me discover the wonderful world of bisexuality.
