Buckshots post got me thinking [smell the smoke] How many here have had formal firearm self defense training? Myself I have been to TDI for their LEVEL I-III handgun course but that was back in 97. And I really need to get back to school.

SS,
I'll have to watch that! Don't want to cause overheats and burned clutches!
BTW, which post of mine triggered this one? I try to keep them truthful, and usually slightly funny, but they flash through my head and I type them in and they are gone unless I hunt them back up later.
I have not had a lot of formal training that I can cite. Been shooting since before there really was those kinds of schools. Shot what was called "Cooper Combat" back when I was still in high school (graduated 1974) based on Jeff Cooper's early book for DBI, the book he won't let them reprint.
First shot High Power about 1975 when I went to the Sunday Match from the old style ORPA Spring DCM (then you did not have to attend the clinic on Saturday to shoot Sunday and you shot a real NMC out to 600 yds on Sunday). Went with a friend (experienced shooter) from the gun club. Saw the rifle for the first time when it came out of the case there. He provided the ammo. First time I had shot at longer than 200 yds. Not a great score, but enough of one to set the hook!
1976 I went to Camp Perry and attended the National Smallbore Rifle Instructor School and the National Rifle Coach School, both held during the National Matches. Two weeks in one of the old POW huts.
After that got my Certified Instructors Rating in Rifle from the NRA and Assistant Instructor (no schools for them yet) for Pistol and Shotgun. Lost them a few years later when I was flat broke at renwal time.
Later tried to get them back, NO CAN DO. You gotta take the course again. $125.00 later I take the test and send in the money and I am certified AGAIN.
Hit another low spot and they are gone again, have not tried to get them back again, looks like just a "pay me" item for the NRA.
Nowdays I go out and help at the range. Provide a warm body, some help when needed, and a large bundle of attitude if someone gets careless on safety and tries to blow the newer, younger, more "trained" guys off.

Anyone have an opinion on SigArms Academy?
They're not too far from me and I'm thinking of getting some training there this summer...
