Anyone on the list interested in old military rifles?
Mausers, Lee Enfields, Springfields, Enfields, Mosin-Nagants, Mannlichers, Schmit-Reubins, MASs and Krags?
How about the older semi-autos?
Hakims, Rashids, Ljungmans, Tokarevs, SKSs, FALNs, MASs, M1 Garands, M1 carbines, FN-FALs or even H&K/CETMEs?

i love my mausers. had a brief fling with an enfield but it started bursting cases on me so i dismantled it and sold all the parts off.
i'd love to get a 1903, and a garand. but the semi-autos of WWII just don't have the same appeal to me as the bolt actions do. tried the m1 carbine, yeah its a cool round, neat gun, but not my style.

What kinds of Mausers?
I have a few, but seldom shoot most of them due to the abominable sights. I don't think they could have found a worse set of sights than Inverted V (Barleycorn) and V sights on the German and a good many of the contract Mausers.
The ones I do shoot most are the Swedish Mausers (M96 and M38) as they have decent sights (straight post front and U notch rear) that are better to use. NOt as good as a peep, but decent anyway.
Have you checked out any of the Mosin-Nagants?
Quickly, check out the Swiss K31 carbines before they are all gone. Sweet shooting rifle, not too hard to feed and currently very cheap.

my first mauser was from cdnn, one of the k98's that went through the yugo factory and was restamped 'm98'. then i bought a yugo m48a from a friend that is in pristine condition.
the sights are difficult to get used to, and are frustrating if the target is a dark color. cant pick out the front sight if it blends right in. using orange targets helps a bit. even though the same type of sights are used on the m98 and m48a, i like the m98 much better. the increments start at 100m instead of 200m.
havent tried a swede yet, but one of my shooting buddies has one that can deliver one hole groups at 100yd. that is, when the shooter isnt being rained down upon with brass. ;D

Well it looks like it down to the Mosin-Nagant or the Yugo for the match rifle. Bore looks alittle better on the Mosin-Nagant but it's a carbine on the plus side though the cabine has a folding baynoet so if I miss I can always stick the target. Don't laugh I jammed up my HK93 once and ended up throwing my KABAR at the target. The RO was unimpressed but it stuck!!!!!!!!

SS,
Check your carbine (M44 I would guess) for impact with the bayonet folded AND with it fixed.
There is a persistent thread running around that the M44s were sighted in with the bayonet fixed and it seems like 2/3 of them DO shoot much closer to point of aim with the bayonet fixed.
I know a guy who miscounted his ammo on some kind of 3 gun match. Ended up a round short. Ran up and buttstroked the target, leavind a big divot in the forehead of the target. There was some argument over it, but the ROs finally gave it to him, it would obviously have done damage to a real live perp.

Well I picked up a Mosin-Nagant M44 and 100 rds of ammo today. Now to find some stipper clips and I'll be all set. I have one question though......Is the bore chrome lined? All the AKs I seen have chrome bores and the M44 looks like maybe.

SS,
I seriously doubt it.
It is probably just that close to new.
