Single! Awww Kacer!. That's sweet! But my heart belongs to another. Wait for it. Here it comes. I’ve been married since 1992. Ouch. Still feels weird to say it, as a blue haired punk rocker back in the ‘80s, I can safely say that this was never supposed to happen, but there you go.… wifey and I have been together since ’89. Can ya’ believe it? But if it’s mindless gun porn you’re into, well heck I can do that. Like I said, I have no idea how I ever came to own so many guns- other than I was in the business for about 7 years back in the ‘90s and man, did I work that discount hard. At one point I was wondering if it would just be easier to be paid in guns, as that was where most of my paycheck was going anyway. *sigh* I miss those days... when did I grow up? Hey, careful, there's a "Kace" (KaceCyote) and a "KaceR", I'm the SECOND one, Kace is the one who asked. I'm strictly for "innies" And not to diminish your ego, as you look good for a guy, BUT I think Kace MIGHT have been a TAD more enticed by the hardware ;D

hmmm, that might warrant its own thread:
would you date someone (of either sex) just for access to their hardware?
;D

/inset Homer voice here: DOH!
The Intarweb and Merlot do NOT mix...
No seriously, I literally said "doh" upon reading that.

I just picked up a Winchester 1873 in a 44-40. The poor thing is around 112 years old so I'm going to reload for it. I paid $700 for the rifle and I'm still working to find and order all the reloading paraphernalia. The price of ammo is high and the 73 has a weak action so reloading is a must. I just can't decide if I should load with black powder or smokeless. The serial # has a B at the end so I'm hoping a light load of smokeless power with a cast 200 gr. bullet will work. Before I reload and shoot anything, I think I'll send an email to Winchester and get their opinion.
Well, back into the cave I crawled out of.

Compulsive,
Winchester's automatic opinion is going to be against reloading. They don't beleive in it for their guns even though a branch of what used to be the same compnay sells components.
Also, be advised that you will actually be talking to USRAC, they make Winchster marked firearms now, Winchester Repeating Arms Co. no longer exists as such.
If you look around on the internet you can date it by serial number.
Check out some Cowboy Action Shooting sites, you can find good loads in both smokeless and black powder that should work well.
Generally black powder is harder to load (more steps, more things that must be done on a more exact basis, less forgiving of different kinds of tools) and clean up than smokeless.
