Here you go..by way of intro. I have a few handguns, but am just starting to get into trap and it's a blast. I don't have a gun for it, since Saturday will only be my second attempt, but I'm looking around for a good starter shotgun that won't cost a lot of money. I'm not a hunter unless you could death by minivan.

Boadecia, Welcome to the board. I actually had multiple votes (I don't know if this software will allow that). Primary is self defense but I also try to do some shooting on the back 1/2 (I wished I had a back 40 ). I also collect. I have a C&R license and want to collect mil-sup handguns mostly but they are few and far between. So I branched out and included mil-sup rifles as well. I would like to hear from some of the others and anyone that thought about buying/getting a gun but don't know alot about them. And let me say thank you for posting a poll, I was wondering if it worked. Wayne

I used to hunt, but I've been leaning in a big way toward self defense. I have a ccw so I've been trying different hand guns. My favorites are a S&W model 640, and Glock 26. Of the two, the Glock is the most accurate, but the S&W is the most reliable, only because it's a revolver. I have two proverbial boat anchors, or maybe fishing weights; S&W AirLite and a KelTec 380 auto. Belly guns, because you need to be that close to hit anything your aiming at and they hurt to much to shoot more than twice. I've opted to stay away from the 40s and 45s, but they are fun to shoot too. ;D I too have a C&R but I'm finding the new stuff beats the old stuff hands down.

compulsive269, The .40's I can well understand. I had a keltec .40 and it did start to hurt after awhile and I started to develope a flinch . I use a full sized Kimber 1911 (well, 4.5in slide) but with full frame. The recoil is almost none existant to me (but others may not like it) and some folks just aren't comfortable carrying a 38oz gun during the day (if you want to try, then a GOOD belt is the key). For my BUG I like the .44 special in an ankle holster. Wayne

Wayne, I think the poll is b0r3kd!
I'm pretty much a range guy, because you can blast away with abandon, which is fun to me. I gave hunting a try this year for the first time, haven't gotten anything yet, but we'll see. I also carry pretty much daily a lil' mousey .380, but it's really all I can get away with at work.

I don't think my kind of shooting is listed in that poll. I'd say "self offence" is closest. I just re inforce the Infantry training from my past. Lately I've been teaching (for fun) others bits and pieces when I get groups together. A lot of shoot move and communicate.

I don't compete, except with myself. I shoot at the range, on father in laws ranch or out the the Nat'l Forest. Lately I have been learning to shoot clays with a shotgun. My FIL says people get mad at the range if you shoot them with a .45. I can hit 5 of 6 with my .45 and 2 of 10 with the shotgun...weird.

I will try most anything, as long as I feel good that weekend.
Smallbore and High Power rifle.
Smallbore and bigbore pistol.
Muzzle loaders.
Don't do much shotgun, get too much flack at the traps. My favorite is a 20" barelled 12 ga. coach gun, it freaks trap shooters out!
