Thanks for the welcome StonerStudent! I'll keep an eye out for an announcement of a social shoot if you can get one together - that would be a fun time!

I'm glad that I found this group through The High Road forum. So as far as introductions go: I live in Bloomington, Indiana with my wife and our dog. I got interested in guns about 10 years ago when I first took an 8 week defensive shooting course. This was not long after I had a frightening experience where someone was trying to break into my house and I called the police. I waited for hours with nothing but a kitchen knife to defend myself and the police never came, not even to take a report. That's when I figured out that the police can't be everywhere and it is the right and responsibility of every citizen to defend themselves to the best of their ability. I now have an Indiana CHL and conceal carry with a Glock 26. My wife has a Taurus revolver and also has a concealed handgun permit. We have a range membership up in Indianapolis (Popguns let us have a family membership, kudos to them and we try to go up and shoot regularly to keep in practice. It's nice to be here and get to know some other GLBT folks and allies who have an interest in guns. I noticed that there is not yet a Pink Pistols anywhere in Indiana and I was wondering if there was anyone here from our neck of the woods. Maybe we could get something started... ;D

Yeah, no kidding about Marshall screwing up. Somehow asserting that you aren't a bigot sounds a little ridiculous when you casually mention that you also think interracial marriage is wrong... Someone forget to tell Marshall that while denying GLBT people rights is still considered a legitimate political decision/religious duty by a lot of people, denying racial minorities rights is seen as a little beyond the pale.

I just looked at my post and I explicitly referred to Pink Pistols but it's the same idea with Gays with Guns...

Yeah, that old argument of "Why don't you just join the NRA, who cares if you are gay?" is a frequently rehearsed one on most of the gun forums.
I think that there are 4 main purposes of Pink Pistols:
1. Increase the individual safety of GLBT folks. Increase individual safety by providing GLBT-friendly people and resources for people who want to learn how to protect themselves with firearms. 2. Increase collective safety by getting the word out to the public (including gay bashers) that we aren't necessarily the easy targets for violence that they see us as. If they can't tell who among us is carrying, everybody benefits from the halo effect of those of us who do own and carry firearms. People might argue that there is a similar benefit derive for all communities from anyone who carries but GLBT folks ARE specifically singled out and targeted for violence in a way that straight, well-off, white males seldom are. 3. Provide comradery of social shooting events and dialogue without the worry of, "What should I say when the guys at the range ask if my partner and I are related?" "Am I going to have to hear men call other men 'faggot' if they miss a target or have a hard time with recoil from a large caliber gun?" There are many, many very cool gun enthusiasts who are supportive or don't care but there are a few grade A homophobes too that can make your experience uncomfortable enough that it may discourage you from shooting or being involved in the RKBA movement. 4. Show the incredible diversity of the RKBA movement. It really throws off a lot of anti-gunner arguments when you have a group of GLBT people defying their unfair stereotypes of the white, redneck gun nuts. I am also Jewish and I think that like JPFO, Pink Pistols is nice because of the diversity issue and to show anti-gunners that guns can and do save lives.
Just my 2 cents...

Thanks Cougar, StonerStudent and Buckshot for the detailed info. I am intrigued by the idea of a long action revolver but it is kind of a bummer that you can't shoot hot ammo in them. Everything is a trade-off though I guess...

Hey Buckshot, Thanks for the tip on the KY Imports link. They do have a revolver listed as a "pre-Model 10" for $150 right now. If I weren't saving up for a vacation I might get it.
Am I right in thinking that a "pre-Model 10" is basically the old Military and Police gun that Smith and Wesson later named the Model 10? If I wanted to buy one and change out the grips I would just need the same kind of K frame grips the modern M10 takes? Just curious...

+1 on the S&W M10. Those are some great wheelguns. I was about to head over to Ohio to find the Central Ohio Police Supply until I read your last sentence!
