SS,
Pretty sweet piece! It was actually the first couple hundred rounds put through a brand new one!
Some of the magazines had such new parkerizing on them that they would not feed with more than 5 rounds in them, the parkerizing was biting into the brass of the .30-06 cases!
Also one of the last to be delivered for a while, Ohio Ordnance is suspending civilian/sporting work for government contracts until further notificaiton. Guy ordered then got word of the suspension before he got the rifle. Was on pins and needles for a while!
There were actually two of them there, but only one came out due to the weather.
No way I could afford one now. Nice, though. 3 hits for 5 shots the first time I ever touched one? I would definitely take it!
Heavy mother, but I could see where it could come in handy while opposing a human wave attack, and with it being heavy it doesn't bounce around real bad on a bipod like FALs or AKs will. More like an AR15 on a bipod.
There were also two Johnson Semi-Automatic Rifles there, with one being available to fire. Very cool, though a little strange feeling for Garand junkies.
Did pick up my new M1 Carbine at the meet. Traded VRC-10 and PRC-10 radio sets and a bunch of accessories for it. Replaces the first one I had that I traded for a Springfield M1861 Rifle Musket reproduction. My first one was an Inland from Korea through Blue Sky. This one is pure Inland, no re-import.
Had to go with Inland, even though they made the largest bunch of them. My Grandfather was a plant guard at the Inland plant on W. Third Street during WW II when they made them!

Yep, I see I did mess up the dates.
Bulletfest is June, NOT April.
Good move there!

SS,
Was the match at BulletFest, or did I have the wrong month for that?
I ended up only making one day of our get together. Saturday.
Cold and alternating between rain and snow. Wind chill probably down around 20 degrees F.
Got to shoot an M1919A6 semi-auto Browning Light Machine Gun and an M1918A3 semi-auto BAR. Took two shots to get the sight picture down on the BAR, then nailed the gong the next three shots. Shooting prone with the bipod at about 150 yds. with the issue open sights and .30-06 ball ammo. 14- 15" diameter steel gong suspended via chain from 4" X 4" framing.
The 1919A6 fired it's first rounds since rebuild this weekend. Not completely done yet, needs some more machining and tuning on the trigger area. Trigger very hard to lift and too sticky to return dependably 100% of the time. Very interesting, though.
One of the hits of the gathering was an original Mosin-Nagant M91/30 Sniper Rifle. Got lots of good hits for everyone who shot it, seemed to be enjoying the cool weather, almost as if it was slightly invigorated and starting to like the weather.

What REALLY bites is the weather forcast for this weekend!
Looks like winter comes back just for this weekend to screw up several different activities.

I won't be able to get there because I have a regional get together from a listsever group I belong to the same weekend.
I could not remember if it was the same weekend or not, the budget would not take two trips in any case the same month, but I hosted the first two get-togethers here in Lima, then they moved to another location and the last two did not work out and I didn't make it. This year we moved to spring (or maybe two a year) and I am "hoping" right up to the point when I get in the truck to go or the avalanche drops on my head.
This is a C&R collectors get together and we will be drawing from at least 6 states.

M4s are proving kind of short to get the best performance out of SS109 anyway, though 1:7 probably stabalizes the M193 a little to well for the best in soft target yaw effect.
When is Bulletfest again? I know that I can't go, but couldn't quickly find the date for it.

Kacer or SS,
What is the new baby set up for, M193 or the M855 series stuff?
My A2 style upper is the one with the windage problem, so I am basically only shooting the A1 upper and the AR180, and they both prefer the M193 type ammo and I don't have any of the M855 type stuff in stock.

Kacer,
Hands-on training but no firing yet?
When does that come up?

Wondered about the April 1st date, both from the "April Fools Day" aspect and from being Friday.
Don't know where to post quantities of movies, short out-takes might go into wmv files to be downloaded.
Good luck.

SS,
That is kind of what I thought, but I wanted to ask.
I have kept them clean, took a look at them when the piece was field stripped and made sure that the three gaps didn't line up but other than that left them pretty much alone.
The USMC ignoring them gave me an opinion on them. The US Army making mention of them in a picture but not in their text kind of reenforced that opinion.
Might have been a "cop thing" around here too. They were getting the surplus M16A1s from the government for the shipping. They had no one (at that time) selected or trained as an armorer and they were fairly worried about the rifles breaking before they got someone to maintain them.
As usual it was probably the result of a guy waking up for one section of the instructions or that section being covered right after he had a fresh cup of coffee, and the gas rings are the only thing he really absorbed out of the class, and it became a horror story!

SS,
Just how big a deal is this gas ring thing?
I have not had it happen to me. The "Guidebook for Marines" doesn't seem to mention anything about the gas rings other than their presence, but the US. Army "Soldier's Manual of Common Tasks Skill Level 1" makes specific mention of this in Figure 74 but there does not seem to be any mention of this in the text.
I wonder about this because of some classes I have taken with police AR users. They are CONSTANTLY pulling the rifle down and checking the gas rings! Seems kind of spooky to me.
Is it something they have to watch for much more because of the used M16A1s they were getting from the government?

Kacer,
Well, the faster you are the farther away the MEAN guy with the Smokey the Bear hat stays. Isn't that a good and worthwhile plan by itself?
;^)
Seriously, what happens when the gaps on the three gas rings work around and line up and you get gas venting and sluggish bolt operation and you have to open things and get the gaps in the gas rings staggered again for proper functioning? That is about as deep as you can go into the action.c

SS,
Do you have the M16 section out of the "Guidebook for Marines" coppied yet to start bootcamp with?
Keep training until she can pull it down in 3.72 seconds and re=assemble in 4.56 seconds while blindfolded in a dark sandbox?
;^)
