SS,
So, going with the Baby analogy, what we saw was the sonogram, not the birth pictures?

Kacer,
Incomplete report!
I see an M4 clone.
You gave no stats.
New babies have weights, lengths, hair color, parts sources (mommy's eyes, daddy's nose)...

SS,
The conversation I cut and pasted below makes me think that we are going to have to find that big mean guy with the forest green and khaki clothes and the flat brimmed hat with the Montana crease and put on a little "Motivation based Training program" for certain moderators that want to dabble in AR15?
Blanket, blindfold and stopwatch. Wake up to your bunk dropping a foot suddenly at night just to answer questions on the proper nomenclature of rifle parts?
Nice little event titled "Learn To Know Your AR15 Weekend!"

Begin Quote: "Yeah, I "got" that... plus I also know that you'll VERY likely tell me the official names and everything of each and every part. Thing is, I wanna know what each thing DOES, but as they are innanimate objects, so I'm unlikely to recall what the actual NAMES are. You get THAT, right? If you ask what's that? (pointing to a part) I'm most likely to be able to tell you what it does, and why, and even the different variatins... but am UNLIKELY to get the name correct.
My concern is FUNCTION.
For people it's different, because you can't just say, "You don't look like a "James", I'll just call you "Charlie", you look like a Charlie."
Maybe I'm wrong, but this is my current impression of myself " End Quote

Tweak,
They (AMU) didn't just say it, they did it (after getting my permission)!
Laid the barrel on a babbit block, held the upper to the table via pushing on the carry handle and wacked the front sight base in the manner you indicated (getting length out from the barrel for leverage without hitting the ear on the FSB).
I don't think they wacked it enough to move it at all.

Ok, here goes.
Question: How do I get my upper receiver, barrel and sights all lined up so that I can actually use the windage adjustment on an A2 style upper.
Assembled an A2 type upper, FN A2 barrel and various other parts for a complete upper. Needs worked in but works. Trouble is that to get it sighted in I have to crank in more than 3/4 of the available right windage!
Went up to Camp Perry and talked to the USAMU armorers and their answer was to beat it with a chunk of babbit till it was lined up or something broke, then rebuuild it. That is fine when working out of Uncle Sugar's parts bins, but stinks from the civilian side!

Stetson,
At that price, who cares what model they are, original or sporterized.
Take them and RUN!

Transonic,
On the K31 it looks like either your stock was made or the rifle was stocked in December 1937, there is some argument as to which this actually means.
The 91/30 should have a date up on the chamber reflecting the rebuild.
It may be just the last two digits and it may have an r looking thing behind it.
The actual production date MAY be stamped in the metal on the underside of the receiver tang when you take it out of the stock.

Transonic,
Glad to have another rifle shooter aboard.
Have you shot your K31 yet? How did it do? Did it have a soldier's name on a paper under the buttplate?
What are the details on your M-N M91/30? Maker, date, original or rebuild?

Haven't done a 3 gun match in the "tactical" sense yet.
Company I work with on firearms training will be putting one on in late July this year. Pass through a "shoot house" with handgun and shotgun and then another pass with handgun and tactical carbine.

Cougar,
Agree with you on the self-sefense statements with the pistol caliber lever guns. Late 19th century assault rifles. Think about the Turks mixing a Winchester lever gun (can't remember if it was a '66 or a '73) for close range with a Peabody Martini for longer range. Kicked some serious rear end on the Russians at a few places, Plenva being one if I remember correctly.
I have a Trapper in .44 Mag. Had one in .45 Colt too but sold it as I also have a Rossi 92 rifle in .45 Colt (longer half round, half octagon barrel, 13 or 14 round magazine) that I just like better.
I have mostly used my lever guns for cowboy shooting (only entered 1 match, mostly practice) and for that you have to keep the loads below 1200 fps. in the rifle or carbine (below 1000 in a handgun) so I use 8.0 gr. of Unique for both calibers. 255 RNFP in the .45 Colt and 205 gr. RNFP in the .44 Mag. (copies the .44-40 load).

Any rifle shooters on the list?
Anyone into high power?
3 gun shooters?
Cowboy action shooters?
How about some smallbore shooters?
Somebody has to shoot something besides just handguns!
Lets hear about it.

SS,
I have like 4 converted AR15 20 rounders for the AR180, but they just don't function that well. Want to lock open with one round left in the mag, VERY TIGHT in the mag well.
I didn't do the conversions, and I have never taken the time to find out what the real hangups were, I found a decent source for factory 20s (this was 10 years ago) and found some 30 round plastic mags also for the AR180.

SS,
I am sitting on a Howa AR180 right now. Thinking about getting an AR180B (hopefully they will modify it with a folding stock now that it is legal to do so?) to keep the wear off the orginal and the original mags.
I had one of the original Bushmasters. It was fixed stock. I built a folder for it. Stole the locking and hinge system off of the AR180 and the rest of the stock design off of the FN Para stock. Made it out of a door hinge, some custom parts, some conduit and some flat steel. Bent and welded it up, painted flat black and added a black Pachmeyer rifle pad.
Stock worked better than the rest of the rifle! Sold it in a fit of low bucks, not much loss, though. They could keep the rifle, I would like to have that stock back, though.
Dad had an early 180 series Mini-14. Not a bad little rifle. I bought one, a later one, and could not hit the broad side of a barn from inside the barn. Traded it off in disgust. Later found out that it was in a group (by serial number) that had the barrels torqued up way too tight and had to be totally replaced, the receivers had strecthed in the receiver ring area and couldnot be saved.
I am a reloader, NO H&K roller lock rifles for me. Do way too much damage to the brass to make a reloader happy.

I have seen posts about the AR-15 series. Also saw a post with a 5.56 X 45 AK.
Anyone into any other mouseguns?
How about the AR18/AR180 or its subsequent developments?
Anyone remember the orginal Bushmaster AK clone before they got into the AR-15 stuff?
There were some 5.56 X 45 stuff from FN and SIG before the AWB shut things down too.
Finally, there has to be some mis-directed soul around here somewhere that still thinks the Ruger Mini-14 is a worthwhile rifle?

Kace,
What I am usually comparing to when I talk about those distances are service rifles fired in the National Match Course. So the comparisons would be with the AR15/M16A2 with IRON SIGHTS.
